Hi, my name is Brooke Holle. I am now 18 years old, I left the group home when I was 16 and went to live with my now adoptive parents who ive known for years, while I was at Sunshine Group Homes i was treated horribly by the managers (all women), throughout this time frame I was in 3 different group homes, my first group home had a manager named Mrs. Joanne, I was treated horribly by mostly her and one of the children who was older than me. One of the children even went so far as to put a dead bird under my bed while at the time I had my own room. The house manager was rude, disrespectful and mean, often referring to how I was white (I hate to bring up anything racial, but I can promise you i was never racist to any of the children nor staff, often I was called a cracker and whenever I had an issue it was suddenly because I was white.)
The next group home i was in was in Avondale, I dont remember if the managers name was Mrs. Moira or mira, though she didnt treat me badly personally she never did anything to the children who lived there who trashed my belongings, stole from me, called me horrible names and destroyed my things. I will add that i ran away multiple times because of these issues, but I have never stolen, called others names, or caused any issues with other kids, i wasnt perfect but I was 14-16 and still never treated anyone horribly. My third and last group home was amazing, a girl had issues with me that ended up being resolved through time, that was the only issue I ever had there, the managers name was Mrs. Ruth and I will never forget her, she encouraged me to not skip class anymore, I went to a school to make up my credits, I stopped smoking Marijuana at school and completely, I never ran away, me and her had our issues because of my own actions, but she was patient, funny, cared for our well-being and never left anybody discarded, she gave us the proper discipline we needed and overall I don't think I would have managed to graduate this year if she hadn't advocated for me. Overall, Sunshine is not a caring good place for youths to be cared for, staff were rude to each other and CHILDREN, they had their own petty drama, got involved in the children's drama, and were not fit to be house managers.
